Biography
|
|
Mezzo soprano Darcy Dunn is a principal
member of New York's Magic Circle Opera Repertory Ensemble (MCORE), and
has been featured in over 200 performances at such venues as Lincoln
Center, LaMama Theatre, Merkin Concert Hall, Saint Peter's Theater, and
theTheater of the Open Eye. Her performances with MCORE earned her the
Patricia Brooks Award for theatrical excellence as well as impressive
notices in the press - "alluring both vocally and dramatically"
wrote the New York Times, "charming and entertaining" noted
Opera Monthly. Recent performances include Laura in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta
at New York's Town Hall, Violet in Ned Rorem' s A Childhood Miracle, the
title role in the world premiere of Martin Halpern's The Boy from
Deerfield, and the mezzo solos in Mahler's 2nd symphony with the New York
Symphony Ensemble. A student of Ray Evans Harrell and graduate of Sarah
Lawrence College, Ms. Dunn is a versatile singer/dancer/actress who is
accomplished in many different performance styles and has a strong
background in Flamenco dance. She is currently adding the roles of Rosina
and Octavian to her traditional repertory, and has been re-engaged by
NYC's Lark Ascending to perform an evening of 20th century songs in April
2001. Other upcoming engagements include a recital benefit performance for
the Hunter Mountain Foundation, a number of appearances with the Magic
Circle, and a solo cabaret concert this winter in Manhattan. |
