Dramatic Coloratura Soprano
Dorothy Donéll has performed operatic roles, concerts and oratorio
throughout the United States and Europe. Whether performing Verdi's
vibrant yet fragile Violetta, Strauss' Rosalinda or Bizet's gentle Micaela,
Miss. Donéll brings to every role highly acclaimed dramatic
interpretation and wonderful singing.
Miss Donéll has performed such principle roles as Violetta in La Traviata,
Nedda in Pagliacci, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, Micaela in Carmen,
Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus and is equally at home with American
contemporary opera. Critical acclaim includes opera director Raymond
Dooley "a fine singing actress"; former New York opera critic
Randall Jarrel "The one to hear is soprano Dorothy Donéll ...fine
temperament and intelligence ...fiery tension"; opera director Ken
Smith "Miss Donéll's vocal abilities and color are the substance of
a Sutherland." European conductor Carl Robert Helg said of Miss
Donéll's performance of LaTaviata "She excelled in projection and
diction and had a rich tone throughout her range an impressive breadth of
virtuosities ".
A masterful concert artist, Miss Donéll has performed in Austria with
world-renowned conductor Cornelius Eberhardt. For the Santa Barbara
Symphony and conductor Gisele Ben-Dor New Year's Gala Concert, Miss
Donéll performed works by Gershwin, Verdi, Lehár, Roger and Hammerstein.
This acclaimed concert was followed by an invitation from the Wagner
Society of Vienna and the Hollaender agency for Miss Donéll to perform in
concert at the Vienna Town Hall operatic works by Mozart, Verdi, Strauss,
and Charpentier.
Recenlty, Miss Donéll placed fifth in the New York Classical Singer
National Opera Competition competing with 21 finalists in Weill Recital
Hall at Carnegie Hall. She has also won two international voice
competitions sponsored by the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra placing
first in the categories of opera, operetta and musical theatre as well as
the "Most Versatile Artist" award. |
